Ezekiel is one of the first post-‘destruction of the First Temple’ writers.
fuck ME this podcast is chillingly timed. Posted on 6 October 2023, Tamar Kamionkowski: “One of the things I think Ezekiel and the rabbis shared is that they were both trying to build something new out of a tragedy and loss. And this really brings us to a larger conversation for another time, about the role of trauma in establishing our practices.” She goes on to talk about how right now is very exciting because it’s the first time in a long time that Judaism is changing, not because it’s experienced a tragedy and is attempting to reform itself in response to that and trying to magically prevent such a thing happening again, but from a place of abundance and positivity. […] Holocaust, Holocaust. […] It was all about survival. And we had to be Jews because we owed it to all of those others who had been persecuted and killed.” (ref. in J.UnB. pod #399)
ALSO: “‘Ezekiel sixteen verse seventeen is referring to a strap-on dildo and Ezekiel is referencing the emasculation of God by the collective body of Israel, who is assuming the phallic, penetrative role in the Divine-human relationship.’”
