A bereita in Brachot 28a (ref. in J.UnB. podcast #400): Rabban Gamliel, the rosh yeshiva, is a gatekeeping older man and is deposed as rosh yeshiva. Rabbi Eleazar ben Azaria — only 18 — is installed as the new rosh yeshiva and lifts the entrance requirements Rabban Gamliel had placed. There is a massive influx of students — 400 or 700 — and the yeshiva has to have more seating installed etc. “The Talmud also notes that in the first day of learning under new leadership, the entire slate of halachic disputes to be discussed is resolved — learning in the new atmosphere is more productive.” [here] “This [vast addition] depressed Rabban Gamaliel who said, ‘Perhaps, God forbid, I have withheld Torah from Israel !’” [here]
